This is not just a Nursery it is an experience! You would pay to enter such a beautiful place in other parts of the country. The Nursery is set out with great creativity which makes it a tranquil and peaceful place to stroll around. There are unusual plants at incredible prices. Advice and help from the owners is second to none and really important for those of us who are not expert gardeners. Their love of wildlife and the environment is obvious and refreshing. I could spend all day there sitting among the cleverly built ruins, smiling at the gargoyles and listening to the plant talk. One visit here and you wont go anywhere else for your plants!!
Not being a proficient gardener and wanting to fill a border 6x2 metres and a raised bed of sleepers I was thrilled to discover this place the plants were vast in choice well priced but the best was the planning and advice of Peter. I wouldn't even think about going anywhere else can't thank him enough John langley Sunderland
I have used Cottage Garden Nursery for several years and always found them to be very helpful. The range of plants has increased over the years eg they were ahead of the game in developing grasses compared to many other garden centres. The little exhibit gardens and features round the site are also great for ideas to use. Also with its position on top of lobley Hill, if they can grow a plant here almost anybody in the north east should be able to. Finally cost is important and their prices are regularly 25-50% cheaper than the bigger name garden centres. Most of my garden has come from their plants.
We stumbled across this little oasis of a garden centre last year. I wish we had found it years ago. Its jam packed with every variety of plant you could wish for and the prices are very reasonable. I love the fact that its not just a garden centre but someones passion. There are little areas around the garden that you can sit and have a coffee and right at the back tucked away in the corner is the most beautiful secret garden,itʼs almost as if itʼs been lost in time.
Thank you to the lovely couple whoʼs passion this is. We recommend a visit Iʼm sure youʼll love it.
My wife and I have visited many times for the last 5 years, since we discovered this haven of a place, and it simply gets better and better! The selection of really unusual and interesting quality specimens is amazing and at such reasonable prices. Loraine and Peter are real plants people and offer wonderful kind and helpful advice. The high success rate of the many plants I have bought is a splendid recommendation of this gem of a garden centre. Many thaks and your effeotrs are well appreciated Tony Borthwick
A definite must, this is a lovley place to visit and an even better place to buy. Donʼt worry if you canʼt find what youʼre looking for or if like me you have a problem spot and youʼre a bit stumped, Peter and Laraine are really friendly, with heaps of advice.
When we moved to Eighton Banks a few months ago Iʼd kept meaning to check out the Cottage Garden Nursery, and was sorry Iʼd left it so long when I finally visited - it is an absolute inspiration to a ʼbeginnerʼ gardener. Iʼve taken 3 separate groups of friends there now - you canʼt get a better recommendation than that!
The gardens are a joy - full of ideas for planting and garden design, you can sit and have a coffee next to the ponds, there are cats sleeping in boxes with plants in the green houses, chickens clucking around the back, and Thorn the dog waiting to greet you on arrival. The staff can offer help and advice on any issue or question - this is truely a business which has been built around a love of gardening and is about as far removed as a trip to B&Q etc. as you can get. I wish all ʼshoppingʼ experiences left me with such a warm glow as a visit to the the Cottage Garden Nursery does - Iʼve been there twice this week!
Would highly recommend this nursery. As novice gardeners, Lorraine and Peter listened to our needs and advised us well. Nothing was too much trouble for either of them and they spent ages answering our endless questions. There is a huge amount of choice and the prices are fantastic. I would highly recommend a visit to anyone, gardener or not and Iʼm certain you wont be dissapointed.
What a find! Loraine and Peter have created a beautiful, picturesque garden in the outskirts of Gateshead, with lots of quirky features and a fabulous planting scheme, which changes constantly. As one group of plants fade, another equally as spectacular begins to bloom. No need to travel to Chelsea!
Then, when you have been truly inspired, you can wander around the tunnels and select plants that you have admired insitu! You dont get that at your ordinary large commercial garden centre. The prices are excellent and the advice as to plant care and suitability for your garden is reliable and second to none. These people know their plants! A great day out!
I agree wholeheartedly with the previous review. After discovering Cottage Garden Nursery, there is nowhere else I would consider going for my garden needs. Loraine and Peter are so helpful and the choice is just amazing. I bought a good range of plants to give my garden colour in late summer and autumn and the same amount of plants would have cost me at least twice as much at a garden centre. I doubt that I would have had the choice and quality also.
we found this nursery by chance and now rarely go any where else , we have never found any where with such a wide variety of high quality plants and competative prices , the advice we have been given has been very helpful from very friendly people , itʼs a wonderful place and definately worth a visit you wonʼt be dissapointed.
