With festival season officially under way, a care home in Fareham is welcoming the community for a fun-filled day of food and celebration.
On Saturday 8th August from 2pm–3.30pm, Care UK’s Parker Meadows will open its doors to families and neighbours for a food festival, inviting guests to tuck in and celebrate the nation’s shared love of great cuisine, community and connection.
Visitors to the Redlands Lane care home can look forward to a range of different street foods, including stuffed Yorkshire puddings, mini pies and fish goujons. Keen to put their skills to the test, residents will be donning their aprons to help prep the dishes with the home’s catering team before the big event.
All produce will be sourced within a 50-mile radius and only recyclable packaging will be used to highlight the importance of sustainability.
Resident Barbara Sullivan said: I am really looking forward to the event, it will bring back some nice memories. My mother used to make a corned beef pie. It was lovely and I even made it for my own family!”
The event is part of the ‘A Taste of Home’ initiative, which will see all Care UK homes host foodie-themed celebrations and share what life in a care home is really like.
Each festival will showcase sustainable, community-focused initiatives while celebrating the diversity and creativity within the homes, from residents’ favourite recipes and traditional dishes to seasonal menus featuring locally sourced ingredients.
Lukasz Mikolaj Irzabek, Home Manager at Parker Meadows, said: “We’re delighted to be welcoming the local community to our very own food festival!
“We are part of a strong community here in Fareham, and days like this are a wonderful way of bringing people together to celebrate our shared love of food, while giving residents the opportunity to share their favourite recipes and traditions with younger generations.
“The day not only promises a lot of laughter, but it is also an excellent way for residents to meet and mingle with lots of new faces – and some familiar ones. We can’t wait to welcome everyone through the doors.”
