The Exeter Academy of Dance (formerly Susan Dukes School of Dancing) has been established in Exeter for over 20 years. We offer classes in Ballet, Street Dance, Modern, Tap and Street Cheer in various venues throughout Exeter and Okehampton.

We aim to promote enjoyment and a love of dance for both boys and girls from the age of 2½ upwards. Students of all abilities are catered for with many dancing once a week for enjoyment and others pursuing the ambition of a career in dance. We hope to teach each dancer in a caring environment and help them fulfill their own potential and personal goals whilst developing, co-ordination, physicality, social skills and confidence.

Students are encouraged to take examinations in ballet, modern and tap by following the Royal Academy of Dance and Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing Syllabi. We strongly encourage students to take examinations as they hold many benefits but all are able to progress through the school even if examinations are not taken.

‘Watching Week’ occurs on the final week of each term (3 times a year) where all relatives are invited to watch classes and see how all the students have progressed. Many of our students relish the chance to show off their newly acquired skills.

We present shows at the Barnfield Theatre, Exeter at regular intervals. These events are greatly looked forward to by students and parents alike and our last show ‘Colours’ (June 2010) performed to sell out audiences. All students are invited to take part in these performances from our youngest at 2 ½ years old all the way up to our adult dancers!

Workshops and other extra courses are also part of our yearly routine to give students the chance to participate in different dance styles and to offer the chance to learn the repertoire of many classical ballets and musicals. We invite guest teachers for many of the courses while others are taught by our own staff.
