The Gardening Club at Care UK’s Norfolk House on Portmore Park Road, is inviting new members to join in on Friday 30th October, and every last Friday of the month from 2.30pm–4pm.
During the sessions, attendees will help collect seeds ready to plant next year, water the garden, and start planting spring bulbs to prepare for a colourful 2027.
The club not only enables residents to enjoy an outdoor activity but also to reminisce about the role gardening and the outdoors has played in their lives, with some having previously cared for large gardens of their own. For others, the Gardening Club has provided an opportunity to discover a new passion that they did not have the chance to enjoy earlier in life.
Resident Jennifer Baldwin, 80, said,“I never had a big garden of my own, although I always wanted one. Now, gardening has become a real passion of mine. I love spending time outside, planting flowers and watching the garden change through the seasons. It makes me very happy to be part of it.”
Sabu Prothasis, Home Manager at Norfolk House, said: “Gardening is a firm favourite with our residents. The club has giveneveryone with greenfingers a wonderful opportunity to share their gardening know-how and skills.
“Gardening itself has many therapeutic benefits for older people, especially those living with dementia, encouraging physical activity and also time spent outdoors, which can help to lower stress and anxiety levels.
“It's beengreat to hear residents share their gardening tips and knowledge with each other. We are looking forward to welcoming the Weybridge community to help make the garden flourish together.”
Norfolk House offers the highest standards of care, including residential, nursing and dementia care. The home incorporates plenty of space for hobbies and leisure activities and has its own activities room, hair and beauty salon and gardens.
