🌧️ Flood Warnings & Weather Risk in Surrey — What You Need to Know (Including Epsom & Ewell)

Current flood risk & warnings

As of the most recent Environment Agency and Met Office data, flood alerts remain in place across parts of Surrey, meaning flooding is possible if heavy rain hits.

These alerts are the early warning level — indicating that surfaces, rivers or drains could flood in places, especially after sustained rainfall. Alerts are designed to give people time to prepare rather than indicate active flooding.

At the moment, flood risk is assessed as very low for the immediate days ahead across much of Surrey, including areas such as Epsom & Ewell.

However, weather conditions can change quickly, and the Met Office continues to issue yellow weather warnings for periods of rain that can lead to surface water flooding and travel disruption, even where rivers aren’t formally in flood.

What this means locally

Even though Epsom & Ewell is not currently under a formal flood warning, being in Surrey means it can still experience:

  • Surface water flooding after heavy rainfall

  • Blocked drains or gutters causing local pooling

  • Flooding on minor roads or pavements after storms

This is why keeping an eye on local forecasts and warnings is wise - and why signing up for alerts and keeping drains clear matters.

👉 Sign up for flood alerts via Floodline (call Floodline on 0345 988 1188 or visit the GOV.UK flood warnings service) so you get notifications by phone, text or email.

Surrey County Council’s emergency planning advice also recommends reporting flooding or blocked drains quickly so response teams can investigate.

Local steps to prepare

Whether or not there’s a current warning:

  • Know your flood risk using the GOV.UK Check for Flooding tool

  • Sign up for Environment Agency alerts

  • Keep garden and driveway drains clear

  • Prepare a simple flood plan if you live in vulnerable spots

  • Contact utility and emergency services early if you see standing water

If flooding is forecast, follow official advice and consider simple prevention - e.g., sandbags or drainage checks - but always prioritise safety and avoid flooding roads where possible.
