Following the submission of the Improving Healthcare Together report to NHS England earlier this summer, setting out proposals for the consolidation of the area’s acute services to be located at either Epsom, St Helier or Sutton hospitals, Councillors at Epsom & Ewell Borough Council have been meeting senior NHS management about the future of hospital services for the borough.
Councillor Barry Nash, Chairman of Community and Wellbeing Committee, said “I really welcome the prospect of significant investment in a new acute unit ensuring residents of Epsom and Ewell have access to a world-class emergency healthcare facility. While the council remains convinced the best place for this new facility is at Epsom Hospital, whatever option the NHS eventually decides, we will expect detailed assurances about the continued access to quality local healthcare for our residents, including specialist services delivered at Epsom Hospital.”
Councillor Liz Frost, the Chairman of the Council’s Health Liaison Panel, added “We are pleased to see the commitment to continue to invest in the estates and facilities at Epsom Hospital, especially with the projected growth in our local population over the coming years. It’s vital that Epsom General Hospital continues to provide quality healthcare to our local communities.”
