The Library of Things at Ewell Library, Bourne Hall will launch in April 2026.
What is a Library of Things?
It's just like a book library, except for things! Why buy an expensive tool or item that you only need once or twice a year?
Our Library of Things allows Epsom and Ewell residents to borrow useful items like carpet cleaners, DIY tools, gardening equipment, and party gear FREE OF CHARGE instead of buying them new.
Our Aim is to empower residents to take practical action for a sustainable future.
Do have something else in mind? Would you like to donate an item? Or would you like to give a donation to help buy an item? We'd love to hear from you, see our Contact Us page.
Epsom's Library of Things is run by Epsom and Ewell Climate Action Network, in partnership with Ewell Library, Bourne Hall and supported by Epsom and Ewell Borough Council and Epsom Repair Cafe.

We are very grateful for the support given by Ewell Library. All other aspects of this service are run by volunteers generously giving their time to the community; please do bear this in mind if things don't go completely as planned.
Q: What is the Epsom & Ewell Library of Things?
A: It is a community project, run by the Epsom & Ewell Climate Action Network (EECAN), that allows local residents to borrow items for free. Instead of buying something you may only use once or twice a year (like a carpet cleaner or a party gazebo), you can simply borrow it from the library.
Q: Why does this project exist?
A: The main goals are to help residents save money, reduce clutter and storage issues, and lower waste and carbon emissions by sharing resources. It's all about making "borrowing, not buying" an easy choice for the community.
Q: How much does it cost to borrow an item?
A: It is completely free. All items can be borrowed from the library FREE OF CHARGE.
Q: Where is the Library of Things located?
A: The Library of Things is based at Ewell Library, Bourne Hall.
Q: When is it open?
A: Our service follows the standard opening hours of Ewell Library. You can collect and return items at the library's front desk during their normal opening times.
Q: What kind of items can I borrow?
A: The library stocks "occasional use" items that have been generously donated by supporters. This includes:
§ DIY & Tools: Pressure washers, wallpaper strippers, hedge trimmers, moisture detection meters, and other DIY tools.
§ Cleaning: Carpet cleaners and steam cleaners.
§ Events & Leisure: Party gazebos.
§ Kitchen & Home: Bread makers and document shredders.
Q: How can I see what's available to borrow?
A: You can browse the full, up-to-date inventory of items on our official borrowing website: https://eecanlibraryofthings.myturn.com/library/.
Q: How can I donate an item?
A: We are always looking for donations of "nearly new" or "spare" occasional-use items that are in good condition and would be in high demand.
§ If you have an item to donate, please contact the team first by emailing willjward@gmail.com.
§ A volunteer will then arrange to assess the item. If it needs a minor repair, we can arrange that with our partners at the Epsom Repair Café.
Q: Who runs the Library of Things?
A: The project is operated and administered by a friendly team of local volunteers from the Epsom and Ewell Climate Action Network (EECAN). We work in partnership with the SCC Library Service, Epsom & Ewell Borough Council, and in association with the Epsom Repair Café.
Q: How can I volunteer or find out more?
A: We are always happy to welcome new volunteers.
