I've been a member for the FSB for 15 years or so and I can wholeheartedly say that it's been a very worthwhile membership.

Not only do we make use of several of the benefits (or have in the past) such as free banking, legal services, debt recovery, auto enrolment pension scheme, Tax investigation protection and so on, but we also attend many of their networking events and seminars/information sessions.

It's true that in the last couple of years, they've lost the plot in terms of the organisational structure that they've frankenstein'ed together, but I still make good use of their benefits and believe in their ability to lobby and campaign on our behalf.

Hopefully they will accept what a monumental error they have made within their organisation and restructure to create a more member focussed organisation before they lose too many members.

Great support and it has paid for itself in the debt collection assistance alone! We attended local meetings and have found the advice and networking opportunities to be great.

I'd recommend any SME's or Sole Traders ( ANY Profession ), to join FSB. They are a very useful "Tool" to assist with Guidance, Advice, Discount Benefits, Policies ... the list goes on !!
I rarely need it but the Legal Advice is excellent, 9 just don't commit yourself or say anything to a 3rd Party or Staff Member UNTIL you've spoken with an FSB Barrister or Solicitor, then follow their instructions.
My advice ……. you'd be daft not to join !!

Have to date not fully utilised what is on offer but the time may come when that may change, sometimes have the feeling it does not want to get its hands dirty and not do anything controversial or make a stand for a particular group you never see them on the news

Too much feedback request not enough action ------------- except for arranging 'connections' to services most of us don't need or want - or probably have a cheaper source of already. In the 10 years I've been a member most of the 'perks' have gone and the core is - mostly - of benefit but there are now at least 3 competitor offerings at a similar cost....................what is the USP any more....???

I was a member years ago. I rejoined with the next company I started. The support and facilities are worth every penny. It is one bill I do not mind paying.

Not close enough to small business, too many sales mails, reviews and surveys without action

I have been a member for many years and being a member of FSB feels like a security blanket for me and my business. I've used them several times for employee issues and they have been very helpful.

On a couple of a occasions I’ve had need to take legal advise from the FSB and they have arranged for a barrister to represent me and saved me thousands of pounds both in legal representation and eventual court fines. There is always a reassuring voice on the end of the phone and once you are advised you are covered for legal representation the relief is enormous. I recommend to many friends and business associates to take out the cover.

For the annual cost, membership is a no brainer for a small business. I pay about £150 a year and save more than this by having free banking with Co-op. My accountant tries to flog me tax investigation insurance each year for the small sum of about £400 and this comes as part of the FSB offering too. The legal advice is a bit cautious and wishy washy but it is reassuring. The generic documents that all businesses need are helpful too. I don't use all the benefits by any means but the stark balance of investment calculation is clear.

Generally legal advice has been OK. However in regards to policies and procedures we have found that this can be hard to manage when there are updates to existing policies or procedure, or if new ones have been added. I have asked numerous times if there is was way of us being alerted so we can keep on top of things without the time consuming excessive of going in to manually check on regular basis to ensure we are keeping up to date. I get the same response that "i will check and come back to you" however nobody has ever got back to me, which is disappointing. A simple email alert would suffice, however this seems to be difficult for the FSB to implement.

I have been a member of the FSB for many years and took advantage of the free banking service they recommend. On top of the fees I save, I receive loyalty bonuses (with 5 different accounts) a huge contribution to my membership fee.
I also have to smile every time I see in the papers that the FSB has raised a point in the interests of small businesses. We are too often neglected because we have no unifying voice - except the FSB.

I have been impressed by the attitude of all the people I know who work for the FSB. I actually think that many members miss out on many things that would be useful to them by non-participation in the useful seminars and networking events organised for them by the FSB. If you are a small business it can be lonely and daunting at times. FSB can really help with that.

FSB? Simply GREAT! As a small business you can feel isolated but with the FSB there you know you have a business community with tons of expertise behind you that you can rely on.

Prompted originally to join to obtain improved Card Payment transactions, which effectively subsidized my Annual Subscription.

I find the Weekly updates useful to look out for interesting Seminars.

Also, I try to attend Local Networking events, which gets me to venues I otherwise wouldn't see whilst meeting interesting People and learning about their Business and experiences.

The Organisation appears to lobby hard for SME's.

Joining is simply a "no brainer" for any small to medium sized business. The services you can tap into are great value and the wide range of topics you can get help with will stand you in good stead when you need guidance and support.

FSB has been invaluable in the running of our business. We have used many of their partner companies and their service has been high quality and good value. The helplines have got us through a number of situations where we needed expert help. They are very much a partner to us.
