Needed advice re feasibility of undertaking a loft conversion as have some structural weakness (bowing) flank wall. Did some research on the Institute of Structural Engineers website and was impressed with SSA's response to my initial queries. Derek and the SSA team completed a feasibility report earlier in the year which made recommendations (including an architect) that could take the project forward.
We're now at a stage that a detailed structural engineering report has been completed (calculations and drawings) with the architect currently completing the detailed plan to take to builders for quotes and realise the project in the near future.
I have been very impressed by SSA - Derek's knowledge and advice, timely responses and above all his willingness to explain and walk me through the process has been invaluable. I highly recommend SSA - a bespoke service.

We had a complicated building project that consisted of a garden room adjacent to a boundary wall that needed underpinning, a loft conversion and a rear kitchen extension that were being built by a loft and extension company. I was not happy with what they were doing on site - particularly when we were told we were going to have to pay for expensive underpinning, seemingly without proper evaluation.

Derek attended site at short notice (which was essential), he quickly assessed the situation and then explained to the contractor what he should do and how he should be constructing the various elements.

Super Structures visited site on two further occasions to ensure that everything was being done correctly. Derek & the team were excellent throughout their support of our loft & ground floor extension which covered some pretty tricky steels downstairs to achieve the clerestory window we wanted. I found Super Structures Associates to be very professional. When asked, Derek Mason was able to visit our property twice in quick succession and drafted detailed reports of his findings extremely quickly. Derek worked well with our builders, and in fact our site foreman had worked with Derek on previous projects and said he had found him to be efficient and professional too. I am pleased I used Super Structures Associates, for their efficiency and professionalism, and reasonable costing for the level of service provided.

We have been carrying out some fairly substantial alterations to a late Georgian cottage in Esher. As so often in such projects, the work has involved a number of changes of tack as we discover, and need to respond to, a variety of hidden structural defects amassed over two hundred years of piecemeal alterations and decay. The whole SSA Team has proven extremely helpful in this process - quick to respond, flexible, efficient and incredibly thoughtful in coming up with practical solutions to fit both our technical needs and our budget.
Not just myself, but our architect and contractor have been thoroughly impressed by SSA's professionalism and skills. I can honestly say that in my experience SSA have provided us with 100% good value. Just as an afterthought I have also been impressed by the way Derek has given time to involve his trainees and, by extension, non-specialist like myself, in the thinking and planning process.

We met Derek last Autumn when we engaged his Firm, SSA, to undertake structural calculations for us, on a 1930s Art Deco flat that we had purchased in Roehampton.
He duly completed his detailed calculations and sent us an entire set of drawings and calculations back in November 2017.
However, only now in March 2018, are we getting around to finalising our refurbishment plans. The findings of a HomeBuyer surveyor required assessment of a chimney structure by a structural engineer in order for the lender to lend against the property. Having located SSA, Derek and I engaged and it was obvious that SSA knew what they were talking about. This was considered a small project for them and they attended promptly (within 48 hours), maintaining open comms with us during the process. Subsequent to this, and due to pressure from our seller, SSA produced their findings in a 70 page report, presenting 2 viable options to rectify the issue. This was delivered 3 days ahead of schedule aiding us greatly and putting our sellers mind at ease.
It was a pleasure dealing with SSA and we are grateful for their speedy turnaround. SSA understood that the process of purchasing a home and having to deal with these unforeseen obstacles could/can be stressful enough and took steps to alleviate this. Thank you SSA.

Derek Mason of SSA assessed our flat for how safe it would be to remove a partial wall in our kitchen. We needed to know if it was load bearing and would have any impact on the structure of our building. Derek did a thorough inspection of the property and was able to provide us with the reassurance we needed that the work could be safely carried out.
