The Daily Mail today features the story of Chelsea Skroback, who has suffered from emetophobia - extreme fear of vomiting -  for twenty years.

It is not only herself vomiting that she has worried about, but others too - which has limited her friends and social life. She has avoided doctor's surgeries, theme parks, flying and car travel, and babies.

But she went to a therapist who recommended EMDR -Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprogramming - a therapy which reduces the impact of disturbing memories - normally used with Post Traumatic Stress. Through taking Chelsea back to the memories of frightening contact, and changing her attitudes to these individual situations, the therapist was able to remove the phobia. Now Chelsea is able to consider having her own children.

EMDR is available in Ealing and West London as part of the Effective Hypnosis service.
