Many people who are attempting to control their weight may be missing hidden sugars in drinks. They may only be calculating the sugar in their food, but sugar is also added to drinks - hot and cold.

Alcoholic drinks account for 10% of 29 year olds - 64 year olds daily intake of sugar, and 6% for over 65s. Whislst there are more obvious additions to fortified wins, sherries, liqueuers and cider, there is also a lot in mixers for spirits. Coca Cola contains 9 teaspoons of sugar per serving.

In high street chains there are up to 25 teaspoons of sugar in some hot drinks. In Starbucks 1/3 of drinks conain more sugar than Coca Cola. This is not to say that they aren't aware - they say that they will reduce sugar concentration by 25% by 2020.
