Stress Makes You Fat

Researchers at University College London have concluded that people who suffer from long term stress are more prone to obesity.

They studied over 2,500 people, measuring levels of cortisol - the stress hormone - over a four year period. They compared this to levels of BMI and waist circumference. They found that they could match levels of cortisol to persistence of obesity - those with higher cortisol tended to have higher BMI and waist circumference.

Of course, it had been realised before this that stressed people would reach for comfort food, but news of consistent overeating in this group  is new.
