Smoking During Pregancy

 This week MOS highlights the dangers to both mother and child of smoking during pregnancy.

Risks to the mother, who smokes during pregnancy - 

The risk of an ectopic pregnancy, miscarriage and premature labour.

Risks to the baby, whose mother has smoked during pregnancy -

The risk of having weaker lungs, and a low birth weight - low birth weight babies are at risk of death and are vulnerable to infection - also breathing difficulties throughout life, risk of retarded growth and development.

 

 Stopping smoking as soon as possible is seen as the best choice for mother and child.
