In January 2017 five million people  took part in the annual challenge to give up alcohol for a month. At least three million have pledged to get involved in 2018.

It's really not a 'Holier Than Thou' exercise - by which you can look down on your friends and neighours - but rather an opportuity to reassess your relationship with alcohol.

There are health benefits - it allows the liver to recover from excesses, and helps with weight loss. Alcohol concern reports that 62% of Dry January participants  have better sleep and more energy.

Good luck to everybody that takes part.
