On a recent visit to Pitshanger Library I spotted details of a competition to write a poem about Ealing.

Anyone can submit up to three poems for the competition. No age limit and no entry fee. The best poem will win £1,000.

The competition, run by United Press Publications, is designed to encourage newcomers young and old to "have a go" at poetry.

The poem can be descriptive, historic, factual or personal - about anything you like as long as there is a local connection.

Poems need to be of no more than 25 lines (including blank lines) and 160 words each.

The closing date for entries is 31st December 2013.

Full details and how to enter can be found here http://www.unitedpress.co.uk/free-poetry-competitions/
