THE KING & I

Rodgers & Hammerstein’s classic musical in a brand new revival at the Everyman

Starring Ramon Tikaram as The King of Siam, this smash hit blockbuster show is packed full of sweeping melodies and remains one of the greatest musicals of all time.

Seen by millions of people across the world since it was first performed in 1951, when it was showered with awards and became a Hollywood movie with Yul Brynner and Deborah Kerr, its glorious soundtrack is still a bestseller today.

It tells the heart-warming story of the British governess Anna Leonowens,   brought to the court of Siam to tutor the King’s many children.  It has one of the most beautiful scores ever written and includes such gorgeous melodies as Hello Young Lovers; Getting To Know You; Shall We Dance; Whistle A Happy Tune and The March of the Siamese Children.

This new production from The Curve Theatre, Leicester and directed by Paul Kerryson, is a lavish, grand scale spectacle, with giant gold Buddhas, sumptuous costumes, a chorus of adorable children, acrobatic dancers and live music.

Ramon Tikaram first came to the attention of the public in the cult ‘90s TV series This Life and has since starred in Wired; Silent Witness and The Mighty Boosh and his numerous West End credits include Bombay Dreams, Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar and Ramayana at the National Theatre.

Josefina Gabrielle plays Anna and her credits include The Witches of Eastwick; Sweet Charity and the lead in Oklahoma! at the National Theatre.
