John first became interested in photography on summer holidays as a child.  Photography was his Dad’s hobby (even though he confessed he was not great at it).  When John was about 10yrs. he began to take photos while on holiday and his interest in the subject began.

At that point John had not considered photography as a career possibility.  As John suffers from dyslexia, school was a real challenge; however he really enjoyed ‘activities week’ each summer when pupils were allowed to do an activity of choice.  John’s choice was always photography!  Not only that, he also learned how to do processing which added to his skills.

When the time came to choosing his next step in life, John was delighted to discover from his teachers that it was possible to study for an HND in photography. This was preferable to doing a degree as the HND is a more practical hands-on course which suited John’s talents.

After going to college and completing the HND John went to work in London as an assistant to various photographers but mainly with John Parker, working on photography for companies such as Benson & Hedges, Carling Black Label, and Pirelli.  Although he was gaining lots of experience, John was broke, as an assistant’s salary was not great.

In 1992 a friend from Cheltenham recommended John to be the photographer for a golfing brochure which resulted in John coming to Cheltenham to live.  Once again the work was on a shoestring but it was good for his portfolio.  For the next few years John worked in commercial photography and it was only after John and his wife Heidi had children that Two Front Teeth was born.

John started taking photos of his children; neighbours saw them and requested John take photos of their families and so word quickly spread that John was a really fantastic children’s photographer.  Heidi made the suggestion that as children from 0-14yrs go through such a lot of changes in their teeth, which define stages of their lives, they should call their new business Two Front Teeth.  The name is quirky, fun and easy to remember.

Two Front Teeth has been a member of Thebestof Cheltenham almost since its inception and has won Most Loved Business In Cheltenham twice in the last few years.  John puts their success down to the fact that he likes photographing people and his passion spills over into great customer service.  His clients are always happy to complete review cards for him whenever he asks.

And John’s plans for the business?  Two Front Teeth is expanding gradually and now offers a wide range of professional photography. They complete the whole process in-house – even the printing and framing  - so customers can have confidence they will have the best possible experience and results.
