I asked Joe why the business is called Corinium given that it is the Roman name for Cirencester and he explained that his parents had intended to set up the shop in Cirencester but a series of events led them to start up in Cheltenham instead.

By 1996 the business was expanding and so Corinium Carpets moved to larger premises on the Kingsditch Industrial Estate.  At the same time Joe was leaving school and joined the company temporarily.  Joe had been considering joining the RAF but wanted to take a year out to think things through and to earn some money!  Like many young people in their late teens Joe wanted to socialise with friends and have a good time.

However, within a few months Joe could see the potential of the business.  His Dad was quite a tough boss and insisted that Joe learned everything from the ground up.  From working as a fitter, Joe went on to become warehouse manager and then was allowed to deal with the clients.  In those days they had no computers in the office so everything was done manually with reams of pads and paper.

Dad, and business partner Colin, taught Joe discipline and after a time he became confident with both product knowledge and management of the business – all of which has helped him to manage his staff and ensure the business runs smoothly.

In April 2012 Joe bought Corinium Carpets from his Dad and his partner.

In the past two years Joe has gradually changed systems and engaged staff to get the right people on board.  He has also created new contacts through marketing campaigns and increased his business in commercial flooring.  As a result he has increased the business 70%, the main hub still being in retail and local businesses.

2014 is a big new year for Joe and his team as they have recently moved to larger, more accessible premises.  This time they have moved only a few doors down from their previous shop.  Joe is delighted as he has been able to create the kind of environment he wanted for Corinium Carpets.  They have a beautiful new showroom with clearly identifiable areas for their products.

Joe is justly proud of Corinium Carpets.  He believes they offer the best advice and good customer service and support throughout. He and his staff have extensive product knowledge and, after listening to their customers and identifying their needs,  enables them to cater for all budgets, tastes and requirements.
