As I sat back in my seat last night I was expecting a colourful depiction – on ice – of the charming fairy tale I remembered from my childhood. What I saw were some extremely energetic, acrobatic and athletic performances. The performers skated around the stage with ease, sometimes at such a speed I was amazed they did not bump into the sets or end up in the audience. Added to this were incredible juggling acts while skating and one young woman was even hula-hooping in a ring of fire!
The set was imaginative in that it portrayed a large book of the fairy tale Beauty and the Beast; when the skaters needed to change scene they simply turned a very large page of the book.
Yes, of course there was romance, music and pretty costumes, just as you would expect but this performance is also very lively and engaging for audiences of all ages. I would urge you to go along and see this production.
