Been here a few times and really liked it but it is pot luck how good your food will be. Never had a bad meal but have had very average ones and amazing ones. Last time I went I asked for penne arrabiata which I hadn’t been able to detect the chilli in on the previous visit (even though it was yummy). As we ordered someone said “make sure it’s spicy this time” and they said of course, no problem. Then when the bill came they had charged an extra pound to put chilli in the sauce that says on the menu has chilli in it. It’s only a pound but really annoying, we had wine and 3 courses so it seems so petty to charge a pound extra for no reason and without asking. It has put me off going back.

Celebrated my husband’s birthday here. The food was first class and staff were amazing. Several of our party had dietary requirements and no fuss made. Would definitely recommend.

I would highly recommend. The food was excellent and the staff were so friendly, making a lovely fuss over my 2yo daughter. We had warm bread, starters, pizza and pasta dishes. All of the food was delicious but this restaurant gets my vote for the BEST pizza in Chelmsford! We visited for an early evening dinner (5pm) and will be back soon. Thank you.

I have not been here for about 18 years and was pleasantly surprised. We had a warm welcome, good friendly service with tasty food and a good wine selection. The Italian menu was so good I had trouble choosing what I wanted to eat. I went pre-theatre and could not fault the restaurant. I am planning to return in the next few weeks. This is a place where I would like to bring friends for an evening out without having to rush off.

We've been to eat here multiple times and we are NEVER disappointed! Great food, great service, great place. Just last weekend the staff at Il Palazzo took great care of my teenage daughter and all her friends at her birthday do - they had a fantastic time and all loved the food. Thank you for making her day so special, especially the desert and happy birthday song! Would recommend to anybody.

We had lunch before our visit to the Civic Theatre. Was so impressed with the quality of food and the friendliness of the staff.
Recommend the Risotto Verde. Was delicious and so reasonably priced.
