An excellent Italian restaurant that doesn't just rely on pasta and pizza. We have been watching Il Palazzo being fitted out for months but only got round to trying it today. What a great experience. My wife started with carpaccio, finely sliced raw beef fillet covered with flaked parmisan, capers and finished with extra virgin olive oil. It is one of my wife's favourites and she has never had it better even in Italy. She followed up with duck in a honey and star anis sauce. This could have been extreamely sweet but skilllful balancing of the sauce gave it a wonderful flavour. My frito misto was superb. Whitebait, calamari and zucchini cooked in a fine but gently crunchy batter. Superb. I followed with slow cooked lamb shank which just fell off the bone and with a sauce which didn't overpower it. We can't wait to return and try the other dishes on the menu. By the way though their menu is extensive they has a half dozen specials as well. This is an independent family run restaurant whose main premises ia in Southend. We met Sam who is charming and responsible for this location. The restaurant is attractively, comfortable and relaxing. We are delighted that a restaurant so good has opened 10 minutes away from our home.

Our first visit to Il Palazzo and we were very impressed. The service was very good and the selection and quality of food was first class. Such a difference compared with the restaurant chains that dominate Chelmsford.

Visited this new restaurant recently and I must say I was very impressed. The service was excellent from the start, with attentive, helpful staff. The menu has enough on it to please any number of palates and portion size was just right. I agree with other reviews that this is just what Chelmsford needed in the wake of the 100's of chain restaurants opening recently. Will definitely return.

Visited this new restaurant on Sunday. I always walked past the previous Italian restaurant situated here and thought how uninviting and drab it looked so I never went in. However, when I walked past this one (on my way to and from the train station), the decor looks chic and welcoming.
The menu is extensive and there is something for everyone. The dish I had was delicious and my family agreed all their meals were excellent and very good value for money.
The service was very friendly and efficient without being intrusive.
In summary, I will definitely be returning and highly recommend.

Really enjoyed our first visit here. Very friendly staff gave us a warm welcome. Bread, olives and oil were delicious. Huge portion of Lasagne was really tasty and incredibly good value at £7.95. Crab and Prawn linguine superb. Wine was reasonable, but the reason we will go back again is because the restaurant is an independent trying to compete with the chains through excellent service, value and great food. Great find for us!

We have visited four times already and have never been disappointed. The staff are really friendly, service excellent and really good portion sizes. So much nicer than Zizzi, Pizza Express etc etc. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed!

Went here last night with friends, seated straight away menus brought over and drink orders quickly taken. Drinks arrived fast which is good but wasn't rushed for food order. Food was lovely with no complaints from us staff were friendly and attentive with out getting in our way. Over all a very nice dinning experience and would have no problem recommending this restaurant or visiting there again.
