At what price comes our health in Carlisle?

Some five years ago, a consortium of Carlisle GP's commenced discussions, proposing amalgamating medical resources within the city.  A one-off health centre.

This proposal gave birth to the Carlisle Medical Group, whose proposals would have meant redevelopment of Hilltop Heights - a site which has attracted much criticism due to its distance from the city centre, and a lack of public transport to the site.  What if this is the best possible site, and the opposition is unfounded?

This opposition includes Carlisle MP, Eric Martlew, who cites the lack of public transport, as being a major factor in his wanting the site to be scrapped.  His preference is in the St. Nicholas Gate/Botchergate area - on flat ground, close to the city centre.

New sites are now being considered.

Whatever site may be approved, let's hope that the patient's interests remain paramount.  Surely it doesn't take a huge amount of investment to create new bus routes in the city?
