What a difference a day makes with Virgin Media…

Virgin Media employees in Cardiff donate time to help local charities

Virgin Media employees in Cardiff are demonstrating what a difference a day can make by pledging their time to help their local communities as part of a company-wide volunteering scheme.  Whether it’s painting fences, tending to the gardens or contributing a professional skill, the team has a huge 1,448 hours of volunteering time available to roll up their sleeves and get involved in local projects.

These hours are up for grabs and Virgin Media is calling out to local organisations to nominate projects which they would like their eager team of volunteers to participate in. No job is too big or too small for the Virgin Media team in Cardiff, be it a community centre overhaul or someone to help deliver essential equipment to a youth group.

A project that is currently benefitting from Virgin Media volunteering days is Cancer Research Wales.  One day a week for six weeks, a Virgin Media employee has become an extra member of the team to help with the behind the scenes jobs and help the charity with its day to day operations.

Over the past year the Cardiff team has donated hundreds of hours to help their local community which has included the team painting and repairing their local community centre that was in desperate need of a little extra attention. Seven members of the team also helped their local children’s hospice to clear up and maintain the communal garden.

Suzie Kerr, Head of Employee Engagement and Experiences for Virgin Media says: “The aim of this initiative is for the Virgin Media team to use their skills and enthusiasm to get out into their local area, helping their communities in any way they can. It could be anything from walking dogs from the local animal shelter to offering professional skills for the day. We have thousands of hours of time to use in Cardiff and the surrounding area. We want to use this valuable time to give something back that will benefit our local communities, whilst enabling our employees to build a huge sense of pride - something we strive for at Virgin Media”

Charities and organisations looking for volunteers can email virginmedia@brayleino.co.uk with details of the projects or activities available. Terms and conditions apply.1.
