Know your product … on the apprentice

This is a classic task, Lord Sugar gives the same list of items to each team and they have to buy all the items for as little as possible for any item they don’t buy there is a fine of £50 plus the average price of the item.  The overall goal is to beat the other team.

Without giving the results away there are lessons to be learnt.

My 3 top tips after watching the apprentice.

  • Know your Product, So on this task as always the candidates never find out exactly what the products are and what they cost. By purposely being really vague it does allow candidates to think outside the box.
  • It’s all about Planning and Logistics, If your looking for products workout which products your going to buy for which country and when sending a team to France send as many French speakers as possible
  • Communicate and Be Flexible, on a task like this there are always some items that can be purchased from each area and some that are hard to pinpoint so its always good to communicate and be flexible

So its difficult to pick a winner at this point but here is my top 3 from week one. ( I had 2/3 for the final last year and the winner wasn’t my pick)

 Week One predictions

  1. Scott Saunders
  2. Selina Waterman-Smith
  3. Brett Butler-Smythe

Week Two predictions

  1. Richard Woods
  2. David Stevenson
  3. Charlene Wain

Week Three predictions

  1. Brett Butler-Smythe
  2. Charlene Wain
