It's a big annual event for your town and village, and for anyone who thinks it's too early to get into the festive spirit, the Christmas light switch on events will definitely leave you feeling warm and fuzzy.

Here's when they are in your Cardiff area:

Thursday 10th November - Cardiff City Centre

Step into Christmas and see the city centre undergo a spectacular transformation with Christmas characters, music, lights and entertainment including appearances from children’s favourite The Gruffalo and a parade of beautiful Cairngorm Reindeer through the city centre pulling Santa on his sleigh.

This festive celebration is the perfect reason to start your shopping early as it also marks the start of late night shopping and opening of Cardiff’s Christmas Market. Visit the alpine-style wooden chalets stalls and fill your stockings with festive foods and hand-crafted gifts then treat yourself to some tantalising street food that included traditional bratwurst and mulled wine.

Sunday 20th November - Whitchurch

There will be craft stalls, The Reindeer Run in aid of Cancer Research Wales and a light parade when Whitchurch marks the start of the festive season.

Santa and his reindeer sleigh will be making an appearance and there will be a full evening's entertainment.

Sunday 27th November - Cardiff Bay

The switching on of the Mermaid Quay Christmas lights coincides with the return of Santa’s magical Post Office.

It will be launched on Sunday, November 27 with a day of festive fun and entertainment, starting at 11am with the opening of the Post Office - with Santa himself - through to the switching on of the lights at 5pm.

The Post Office will then be open December 3-4, 10-11 and 17-18 and you can write and decorate a letter to Santa for free but with donations welcome to Tenovus Cancer Care.

More details will be made available closer to the date at www.mermaidquay.co.uk

Sunday 3rd December - Rhiwbina

Full details will be updated soon but Santa will be visiting and the lantern parade will also be taking place again this year
