I went to the new Cardiff City Stadium on Saturday to watch the opening Championship match of the season against Stockport. Class.
It was a super afternoon on every level. The Stadium was superb, the sun shone, and Cardiff comprehensively outplayed Stockport to win easily at 4-0 which could have just as easily been six.
Now, one Bluebird does not a Summer make and being 'top of the league' is certainly a true but premature chant to boast but aside from the usual worries about depth of squad the 22,000 (best crowd since 1971 at home) thoroughly enjoyed the occasion.
Of the new boys I was impressed with Paul Quinn and the only player that worried me a little was Mark Hudson - his experience and positional play seemed fine but I would question his pace - he looked like he was running on sand as a couple of the Stockport players easily out-sprinted him - we'll see if this is just lack of early season sharpness or a more serious concern.
The Bluebirds continured their excellent competititve home form by beating Dagenham & Redbridge in the Carling Cup last night - our weakened team were more than enough to sail through in front of a good 5,500 crowd.
Early signs are promising lets hope Bluebirds will be swooping to victory regularly.
What did you think of the Stadium and the early season form of the Bluebirds for what lies ahead?
In all honesty, I can't see us getting automatic promotion but this year we may make the play-offs for the first time in this division...fingers crossed.
