Local Reviews
In January 2015, R55DRG said about Red Hall Hotel
We booked two rooms for the New Years Eve event at the hotel and at £250 per couple, this proved to be excellent value for money.

In mid December, the hotel reception were extremely helpful, reserving four rooms for a week until we established the size of our party. As it was, we only needed the two rooms and we were very grateful for their help.

The exterior, reception, bar and restaurant all create a favourable impression being contemporary in design and very well presented and all areas of the hotel are clean and well maintained. The hotel is listed as three star but this may possibly be due to lack of amenities such as a pool/gym. I have definitely stayed in far worse three star hotels!

Anyone who has read any of my reviews will know that I am passionate about service. The service ethos at the Red Hall is excellent. Staff are smart, pleasant and friendly and nothing is too much trouble. They were more than happy to supply an ice bucket and champagne glasses for our room so we could celebrate New Year via media with friends in Shanghai during the afternoon. It was in fact a pleasure to deal with the staff and there are many places that could learn from this hotel.

Overall, our room could not be faulted. We had room 25 on the first floor. This has pleasant views of the farmland to the rear of the hotel, was quiet and reasonably well equipped. Furnishings, linen and toiletries were of good quality with plenty of hanging space and coat hangers. Bathroom was functional and clean - just one negative, this being the drench shower which lacked oomph and trickled rather than drenched!

The festivities at £78 per head (within the £250 package) were well priced. A glass of bucks fizz with canapes at the pre dinner reception and then in to the dining room. Food was of a good standard and given the numbers being catered for served hot which has to be commended. All four of us chose the scallop starter. The scallops were beautifully cooked but were sadly overshadowed by piccalilli (too strong and overpowered the delicate scallop) and two large chunks of black pudding. Not the chefs finest creation. We also, all chose the beef for the main course. The main beef and vegetables were all well received, although the 'rag' pudding served with them divided opinion. I liked it, but it's possible the portion was too much given the other contents of the dish. We finished with chocolate tort which again received compliments. Coffee, mints and mince pies to follow rounded off what on the whole was a decent meal.

Following the meal, a disco provided the entertainment. Everyone was up and dancing early and this continued throughout the remainder of the evening. If there was any criticism, the dj may want to rethink his midnight presentation which I think fell a bit flat and his close at 1am, well it just arrived - a bit more pzazz would have helped and again left things feeling a little flat.

After a good nights sleep, we had a late checkout as part of the package, so wandered down for breakfast around 10am. There was no one on the breakfast reception and we had to wait around for 5 minutes or so. This was the one service disappointment of our stay. We were eventually seated in the lounge area and normal service resumed. Coffee arrived promptly with toast (bloomer bread - lovely!) and we were invited to choose from the buffet in the restaurant for fruit juice, cereals etc. the buffet had a reasonable selection and everything was lovely and fresh. Our order was also taken for the cooked breakfast. Top marks to the Red Hall, they serve cooked breakfasts to order. It simply has to save on waste and improve the customer experience so please don't change this! When it arrived, we were not disappointed, this has possibly to be one of the best presented, quality ingredient breakfasts I have had in a hotel. Superb!

In summary, we would thoroughly recommend the Red Hall - service and value are part of their DNA and long may this continue. An excellent local hotel.
