In the middle is “danger”, the fight or flight response. Your heart rate rises, your body feels tense, and you may feel anxious, restless or irritable.
At the bottom is “life threat”, the freeze or shutdown state. This can feel like numbness, heaviness, difficulty speaking, or a sense of detachment and hopelessness

The key message? These responses are not weaknesses. They are protective adaptations designed to keep you safe.
