Brentwood Theatre
Brentwood Theatre is delighted that one of its ‘own’, Owen Thompson, is making waves in professional theatre as Associate Director on a brand new production of the hit musical sensation, Chicago.
Local lad Owen has appeared at Brentwood Theatre several times, in a variety of shows, as choreographer, and even barman – and calendar boy! The Theatre is therefore delighted to learn that he has recently been appointed as Associate Director to the forthcoming production of Chicago at the 300-seat Aberystwyth Arts Centre which receives three quarters of a million visitors every year!
‘This is great news for Owen. He is a very talented performer and a great personal friend,’ said Brentwood’s Production Manager David Zelly. ‘We have been very proud to watch his career grow as he has travelled around the world in a variety of productions including ALL THAT JAZZ and CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG.
‘We went along to see the production of The King and I in Aberystwyth last year and are booked in for opening night this year.
We are very, very proud.’
One complication is that the new production will not be using any of the dance style developed by the infamous Bob Fosse for the stage and film productions. ‘We have joked with Owen that he needs to be BETTER than Fosse – but actually we believe he can be and wish him best of luck for this show.’
Owen commented, ‘I have always been very involved in community theatre and it was a great support to me in my decision to become a professional actor. ‘Elegies’ in 2006 was an amazing production that I was proud to be part of in support of Brentwood Theatre.
Although my directorial work takes me all over the country, I do pop back to Brentwood Theatre whenever I can.’
Chicago opens this July for a six week run.
