We chose the De Vere White for a weekend break away to relax. It was a great choice.
Very easy to find just of the motorway, and the Middlebrook behind was ideal for shopping & eating out.
The room was nicely decorated and had everything we needed, altough for me the pillows were too hard, All the staff we met were very friendly, especially the staff at the bar on the 1st floor.
We had breakfast on the Sunday which was very nice but wish we had been made aware of the cost beforehand as although it was nice I think £15 was a little pricey, maybe we should have asked the cost 1st.
All in all we would definately go back for another weekend/night away, but would probably pass on the breakfast and go round to Mcd's or Asda.

arrived sunday - checking in no problem even when we requested room change as original very close to lift staff were polite and helpful

room and bed very comfortable and pleasantly surprised to have sky sports on tv (other de vere hotels we have stayed in only had the basic channels)

very convenient for shopping park and with plenty of restaurants etc in easy reach

only rated as average due to the breakfast (would have been very good) - the food itself was good and the service excellent (staff a credit to hotel) - however when we checked out we were shocked to be charged £21 for the 2 breakfasts which is much higher than other de veres (one is £10 for 2 people) and the comments of other recent guests on this website - own fault as we should have asked but on the otherhand could a tariff not be made available ?

will stay at this hotel again but most certainly will not be eating breakfast

This was supposed to be a nice suprise for my boyfriends birthday. Treating him to the football match and a night away. The thought of staying in a football stadium was something new expecting the place to be out standing i was very disappointed paying £99 for a room to realise it was very much the same standard as a £60 travel lodge. Not worth the price we had a great meal in the reflections restaurant in a booth over looking the footy pitch. The bar was a little shabby with duck taped booths maybe needs a referb? staff where friendly but on arrival the card machines where down. I am very disappointed and annoyed to find on our arrival home we have been over charged. We have been charged for 2 breakfasts in which we didnt request or even eat.
I would not stay at this hotel again and i wouldnt reccomend anyone to stay there
Sorry

I like the de Vere Whites hotel; I like it's location, the feel of the hotel, the roomy break out space you've got to sit and unwind or work. The people are pleasant and helpful and it's in a good location if you're visiting friends or family in Bolton or working in the Greater Manchester area - I'm doing a mixture of both, so this place suits me fine.

Ok yes, so the room is very dated - no flat screen tv or neutral colours here, just a chunky tv that's seen better days and bright blue furniture that actually hurts the eyes if you look at it too long - in fact it's time this hotel had an internal makeover to stop it really falling behind it's rivals.. but all this could be forgiven - until, that is, I felt peckish and picked up the room service menu..

Deep Fried Onion RIngs (sweet chilli sauce) - £3.50
Chips (Bernaise sauce) - £3.95
Pork Crackling (apple sauce) - £4.25

I'm told the pork crackling is a bowl of (just) pork crackling served with apple sauce!

8oz Homemade Verve Burger (cheese & chips) - £11.50

Sandwiches come at a price of £5.95 with Paninis starting at £6.95 to £8.50 and Wraps ranging from £4.95 (veggie option) to £9.50.

Now I don't mind paying (over the odds) for hotel food but I'm really struggling to bring myself to order at these prices; I've paid less at a 5-star hotel (Radisson Manchester)! By the time you've grabbed a drink and paid for the tray charge (£3) then you're talking the best part of £20 for a quick sandwich, chips and a drink!

I'm sorry but I think the de Vere needs to re-think it's food prices. Yes I can eat in the bar but I don't want to, I just want to relax in my tv with a quick bite and trashy tv.. Looks like the diet's starting tonight then!

This area has a wide selection of hotels probably in a two mile radius there are certainly four or five, Whites is certainly the lead hotel in terms of size, location, facilities and most definitely service.
There have been few hotels of the hundreds I have stayed at over the years where the influence of the General Manager and his high standards are met. What is obvious here too is the respect the team have for the GM reflected in the level of service offered throughout all departments.

From a swift check-in through to attending a function with dinner to the late night bar staff, room service and checkout staff are friendly, polite and above all else efficient.

In my last review I mentioned the bar being closed 'early' and Gordon Clapperton the General Manager responded that he would ask his team to review their closings, true to his word he must have for when we headed to the bar for a night cap at the end of our function and well beyond two a.m. guests were still enjoying their drinks and still being served, as a customer of any organisation it always feels good to know that people have genuinely taken on board your feedback, too often in other hotels I hear "we're sorry" and you know it is just lip service, not so here.

For the first time we used the room service here, for breakfast. Having 'booked' delivery for a specific time slot it was a nice surprise to receive a call saying the food was en route and within 90 seconds the door was being knocked. Food was well presented with covered cloche's, despite this food is never going to retain the heat & freshness of having served yourself at the restaurant buffet and consumed it instantly. This is no criticism of the food or service, it's more an observation and for other's benefits that I mention it and it appplies to hotels in general not just this one.

The function we attended was an in-house function held in a just right sized room, with a great DJ and 70/80's band who kept the dance floor full we had a great night, the three course meal was of the usual high standards and the function was amazing value for money.

Will we be back? the review title says it all, we will certainly be back here at least twice more this year. I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.

i booked a hotel room on the Wednesday night as a last minute decision to spend our wedding night somewhere other than at home as we were on a tight budget.
booked through Hotels.com for a fab price of 29 pounds reduced from 119 (as this was for a Sunday night) for a double room without breakfast, non-refundable.
I then called the hotel the next day to see whether i could get an upgrade due to this being our honeymoon and they couldn't have been more helpful! I, sorry, we were upgraded to a penthouse suite immediately by a lovely receptionist who didn't mind that we had booked last minute especially considering what we had paid!
Arrived around 9pm to a lovely warm welcome from the reception staff who were lovely and knew we were there for our wedding night etc.
The room couldn't have been more perfect, fabulous, luxurious and romantic!! (my best friend had also paid for flowers, fruit and breakfast which was an added bonus)
The next morning when i called to inquire about breakfast, we were informed, rightly so, that we should have left the form completed outside the room, however this was no problem and within half an hour of placing our gigantic breakfast order, 2 lovely members of staff brought this up to our room!
The breakfast was sumptuous and delicious, everything was fresh and cooked to perfection!
Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone considering staying in the vicinity, based on the treatment, service and quality we received, it really was a wonderful end to our perfect day!!

I booked a suite at this hotel as a treat for my husband's birthday. The room was massive, it had a seperate living area, two TVs, a sofa, a large bed, a changing area, two wardrobes and a very large bathroom with two wash basins. A nice touch was a wine cooler which we used. There were also some lovely soft bathrobes in the wardrobe. The room was clean. I was slightly disappointed it was on the exterior of the hotel and not overlooking the stadium, as paying for a suite I expected the best view (maybe wrongly). The room could be improved by the addition of a fridge, some nice toiletries and flat screen TVs instead of the old kind. However, this is a 4* hotel not 5* and this is why. Service was friendly. We didn't have breakfast or an evening meal. We enjoyed our stay and would return.

was attending a business conference and found this hotel excellent - all the staff were very pleasant, professional and very efficient. Particularly, Dexter, their resident personal trainer who really made my workout fun in their small but well equipped Gym. The only discomfort was that the hotel Wifi was down for at least more than 12 hours.
