When we arrived before check in time we were offered a seat in the bar, the receptionist said she would arrange for our room to be made ready next and she would let us know when it was ready, we had a leisurely coffee in the bar where the bar staff were lovely too. We were shortly informed our room was ready. The room was basic but clean.
Using this as a base to travel to Manchester it was ideally placed, a couple of minutes from the motorway and about 20 minutes from the Trafford Centre. The swimming pool and gym were basic and small but OK. We ate in the restaurant and the service was a little slow but food was good. All staff were very friendly and helpful. Would stay again.

After reading some reviews we were worried about staying on a Saturday night in case of noise from functions but we had a room on the top floor at the end of a corridor so we didn't hear a thing all night.
Check in was friendly and efficient and the layout of the hotel was explained to us, our room was nice with a king size bed and the only issue was the lack of bed side cabinets on either side ! We asked for more coffee and sugar and they were delivered within 10 minutes .
The swimming pool looked inviting but we didn't have time , if we were in the area again we wouldn't hesitate to stay again

On arrival at the hotel the reception staff were fantastic, they were during the stay,. When we required a taxi they ordered one and then continued to chase it up until it arrived.
On return to the hotel that evening we were very disappointed with the evening bar staff as 1 of them had his back to the room and continued talking to a group of men totally oblivious to the rest of the bar, the other waiter was talking to the receptionist again totally oblivious to the people in the bar. We waited for 10 minutes and eventually left.

The room was acceptable apart from the dirty stains around the toilet on the floor. There was only 1 set of towels out and on looking for them we found them wrapped up in a polythene bag in the wardrobe. The bed was disgraceful you could feel the springs all night to the extent I woke up with a mark on my leg from the springs, on talking to friends that where also staying there the bed they had was the same.

When we went for breakfast no one was there to greet us and take our payment chit off us. There was no fresh fruit on arrival it finally was replenished when we had finished our breakfast. They ran out of bacon and sausages so we had to wait again for them to be replenished by the time the sausage came my husband had finished his breakfast.

We complained to the duty manager about all the above and he was extermely apologetic, he did reimburse our breakfast cost and said he would follow the other complaints up and get back to us , so hopefully they will.
The hotel was quiet and what breakfast we had was good but they definitely need to look at the other comments.

I just loved the food here and the service from the staff. Mention to Ashley in the bar / restaurant for being ace. The rooms aren't as lush as I expected for that grade of hotel, but there's no knocking the facilities with an onsite gym and ample parking. Bar is a bit pricey but to be expected for this grade of hotel, but it's in Bolton which in itself is the end of the earth so they could do something I'm sure. It's a bit off the beaten track I thought but still handy enough. Would I go again? Yes

On the night I was there the hotel was holding a wedding reception with a disco. There seemed to be no soundproofing on the annex where the reception was held, and the noise from the disco carried into all the rooms at the back of the hotel, even mine on the third floor!

To be fair, the staff did move me to another room when I complained, which was ok, even if there was a busy road going past the window.

Generally the hotel was clean, if a little tired looking. Service was variable, depending on which member of staff you were talking to - most of them just looked exhausted. There was free wifi in the lobby, which was helpful, as I couldnt get reception for my mobile connection in my room.

The hotel is cheap for a Mercure, and I can see why. But it is probably decent value if you can manage to avoid Saturday nights and wedding receptions.

We stayed for three nights whilst visiting friends, a competitive price, easy to find location and just a stones throw away from the motorway so great for getting about.

Very friendly and pleasant staff, clean and tidy first impression. Ample parking.

We booked a standard room as it was purely a base to sleep, room on top floor was of a good size, clean, ensuite was larger than most with a bath and shower over again clean. The room had tea and coffee facilities, a trouser press, tv with limited channels and often poor reception.

The bed was a standard double, clean and good quality bedding but a terrible mattress, to say it was a sprung mattress is an understatement as every time you moved you felt everyone of them. In desperate need of an upgrade. Furniture a little dated and some was damaged.

Top tip- book your breakfast the night before as its £9 instead of £13 on the day. Breakfast was of good quality, buffet style. Although during our stay, the hotel was quite so service and refills were a little slow.

Overall the hotel is good value and probable worth a room upgrade.

I abandoned a trip to Scotland because of blizzard conditions on the M61, so I was grateful for a warm welcome from the friendly receptionist. The Georgian House seems to specialise in weddings and conferences, so the public areas were fresh and pleasant. However, the hotel really doesn't match Mercure's usual standards. The decor in my room was old-fashioned, the toilet didn't flush properly and the door did not close reliably (a potential security problem). I complained twice that the function suite below my bedroom was pumping out loud music; to her credit, the manager personally took care of my second complaint.

I had dinner in the restaurant and my table in the restaurant hadn't been cleaned properly. The starter and main course were good, but the bread-and-butter pudding I had for dessert was very poor.

Overall, it wasn't a bad stay but there were just too many niggles for me to recommend the Georgian House.

I stayed at the Georgian House Hotel in March 2013 while on business in the area. I was attracted by a very good price when booking in advance, and also by the location - as I was visiting Bolton Arena, it made little sense to stay in the centre of town.

The two highlights of my stay were the friendly welcome I got from the staff & the food. From the moment I arrived until the moment I left, I got the impression that everyone was prepared to bend over backwards to help the guests. A special mention goes to the waitress in the restuarant who made my evening meal a very enjoyable experience & helped me decide between two main courses! The food itself was excellent, and I'd heartily recommend the sea bass to anyone staying at the hotel.

As previous reviewers have mentioned, the breakfast had a little room for improvement. I wasn't down as soon as the restuarant opened, and so found several empty dishes in the buffet which weren't replenished during the time I was having my breakfast. Another guest on a nearby table seemed quite put out that she couldn't find any marmelade. In contrast to the evening before, the service was a little slow & I was a fair way through my breakfast before anyone appeared to ask if I wanted tea or coffee. It wasn't a bad breakfast experience by any means, but could've been improved.

The room itself was a little dated, but was clean, warm, quiet & gave a fairly good night's sleep. The only particular gripes I've got were the lack of bedside tables & the fact that only one of the two plugs in the room appeared to work. It was refreshing not to be patronised though - there wasn't a sign warning that the hot water might be hot, even though it was extremely warm.

Overall, I had a really good stay for a very cheap price. I'll certainly stay again if I'm back in the area.
