Bolton Society for Blind People help the 3,000 registered and partially sighted people in Bolton services and activities to help them live an equal life to their peers.

“Bolton Society for Blind People is a Bolton based charity who provide support, guidance and information for blind and partially sighted people across the town.”

Complement Needs

Bolton Society for Blind People was established in the late 1940’s to provide services and advice for the thousands of registered blind and partially sighted people across Bolton. Since then it has evolved to complement the needs of blind adults and their families in Bolton.

Services

There is no charge for members to join the BSBP. By joining the society members have access to the many services the organisation offers. Thousands of people are registered blind and partially sighted in Bolton, and many hundreds more people aren’t registered. A lot of visually impaired people find it difficult to do things and access places that many of us take for granted. Without BSBP’s help this could lead to unnecessary loneliness. BSBP offer support, information, advice and guidance and arrange outings, home visits and social activities so that their members can live an equal life as their peers.

Volunteers

BSBP are always looking for new volunteers to give up a small amount of time each week to support their members. BSBP will provide volunteer opportunities for anyone, regardless of their age or background, etc.

By volunteering with BSBP, you’ll get lots of fantastic benefits, including full visual impairment training, full sighted guide training, meet new people and many more exciting opportunities. Current volunteers have commented on how rewarding they find volunteering with BSBP.

There are lots of different ways you can help BSBP. The befriending service has been running for over 5 years and volunteers visit visually impaired people and support them with daily tasks such as shopping, hospital appointments and more, so they don’t feel isolated. Other ways you can help are volunteer driving, supporting the ramblers group, run craft sessions and attend fundraising drives.

You can spend as much time as you like volunteering with BSBP. It could be helping at a one off event or giving up a few hours on a weekly basis. Just let the charity know your availability.

Business Training

BSBP know that many companies are not very accessible for blind and partially sighted people. This is why they offer specialist training packages. This covers common eye conditions, how to make your organisation more accessible, how to offer a guiding arm to a visually impaired person correctly and dispelling myths about visual impairment. This is in the form of a 3 hour session at your offices or BSBP’s premises in the sensory hub. It is a challenging but fun and informative course that will provide you with important knowledge on visual impairment and related issues. The training package is £35 per person and £300 for 10 people
