Smithills Open Farm
Smithills Open Farm is a fantastic farm on the outskirts of Bolton, will all kinds of cute animals for children to interact with. There is also a brilliant cafe, playground and souvenir shop on site.

The animals at Smithills Open Farm
Smithills Open Farm have over 25 different species of animals for families to meet. We can’t list all of them here, but they include
- Pigs, cows and sheep- All the animals you’d expect to see at a working farm are present at Smithills.
- Donkeys- You can ride round Smithills Farm on a donkey for only £1.
- Guinea Pigs and Rabbits- You can hold and stroke the furry critters in their house.
- Goats- Buy some goat feed from the on-site shop and you’ll be able to feed the goats yourself.
- Chicks- As long as you’re gentle you’ll be able to hold the tiny chicks in your hands.
- Snakes- The biggest snake at Smithills Farm is a massive 12 feet long, but, with the help of the keepers, you can hold it if you’re brave enough.
Smithills Open Farm is the ideal place to bring groups of school children of all ages. Teachers bring pupils from all over Bolton to meet the animals and learn about daily life on a farm.
Youngsters can touch, feed and even ride some of the animals on the farm and then enjoy playing on the adventure playground or jumping on the bouncy castles afterwards. Children can bring their own lunch on the trip or they can eat in the on-site café.
Parties at Smithills Open Farm
Smithills Open Farm is an excellent place to hold a child’s birthday party. The cost is only £13 per child and that price includes a visit to Pet’s Corner where you can feed the lambs, hold a snake (if you’re brave enough,) and cuddle all the adorable small animals, like the guinea pigs and baby chicks.
Once you’ve finished meeting all the pets in Pet’s Corner, you can ride a donkey or tractor, play in the sandpit and adventure playground and run riot on the bouncy castle.
Smithills will even provide all the food and drink for party goers. Although you need to bring the birthday cake and party bags, the team at Smithills will prepare sandwiches, fruit and other snacks. All parties must have a minimum of 10 children attending.
Events at Smithills Farm
Smithills Open Farm always have something happening throughout the year, but particularly at Easter, Christmas and Halloween.
The Easter celebrations last for a fortnight and there’s usually an Easter Egg Hunt every day. It’s the time of year when there are lots of baby animals hopping around too.
At Christmas Smithills Open Farm open Santa’s grottos and other festive events.
Halloween is a spooktacular time at Smithills Open Farm. There’s often a disco, fancy dress competition, haunted tractor ride and scary walks through the grounds.
