"Providing temporary supported accommodation for young people aged 16-25"

Partnership

Bolton Young Persons Housing Scheme provide support and housing for homeless and vulnerable young people who are single.

The scheme also works closely in partnership with a number of other agencies in Bolton to deliver supported housing to young people aged 16-15.

Bolton Young Persons Housing Scheme helps young people to build the confidence needed to live independently and actively within their local community.

Supported Accommodation

BYPHS has 25 flats to rent to homeless and vulnerable young people, which are owned by Irwell Valley Housing Association, Contour Housing Group and Places for People.

The flats are fully furnished and supplied with bedding, towels, pots and pans, plates and cutlery. A young person can stay with BYPHS for up to two years, although the average stay is around 12-13 months.

When the young person has developed sufficient independent living skills to move into their own tenancy, a Resettlement Worker will help to arrange this and provide continued support.

Nightstay

Nightstay is a large house that provides emergency accommodation for 16-21 year olds. There are only seven places available per night and each young person gets their own room.

Access to this service is arranged by Children's Services and the Housing Options Service. The project is run in accordance to strict guidelines, with the building only being open to young people from 6pm to 9am.

Every young person must book in on a daily basis and the front door is locked at 10.30am. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with an evening meal, supper and breakfast provided. There is also a lounge with a television, a games machine and internet access and groups activities are arranged on Sundays.

Drop-In

The Drop-In is an area at the back of the office which has been specially designated as a place for residents and ex-residents to relax and meet the rest of the staff team.

The Drop-In is open every Tuesday and Thursday from 1pm - 4pm and has washing facilities, internet access, a phone for benefits and jobsearch enquiries and a games console. BYPHS will also provide food for the young people.
