About Bolton School

Bolton School is a highly regarded independent day school, educating pupils from nursery age through to sixth form. Founded by Lord Leverhulme, the school has a long tradition of academic excellence combined with a strong emphasis on character, values, and community. Today, Bolton School is organised as a family of schools, including the Boys’ Division, Girls’ Division, Co-educational Nursery and Infant School, and single sex Junior Schools, all sharing a common campus and ethos.

The school offers a broad and challenging curriculum, with strong performance at GCSE and A Level, and a wide range of subject choices designed to support diverse interests and abilities. Alongside academics, Bolton School places significant importance on co-curricular activities. Sport, music, drama, outdoor education, and clubs play a central role in school life, encouraging pupils to develop confidence, teamwork, and leadership skills.

Bolton School is also known for its commitment to pastoral care and personal development. Its ethos is underpinned by values such as integrity, respect, and service, supported by an active alumni network known as Old Boys’ and Old Girls’ associations. With its blend of tradition and modern educational practice, Bolton School aims to prepare pupils not only for higher education and careers, but also for meaningful and responsible lives.
