We are a busy couple looking for a relaxing night away and this was perfect.
We were welcomed by Julia at reception who was warm, friendly and enthusiastic.
We had a lovely chat then headed for our treatment in the spa.
The spa staff were friendly and our therapist Ella was amazing. Best back massage and facial I have had in ages.
The room is big, the bed a super king and the en-suite was new, clean and shower was great.

******** This is an OUTSTANDING hotel. ********

Two years ago, I found this venue as a location for a film I was making, and WOW, what a find!!
We used The Oak Room then for our film set, and it was beautiful.
Well, because of how wonderful it was, I decided to use the hotel as a location for my second film, so this year we came back.
Not only is the location excellent, but nearly all the staff are beyond brilliant, helpful, courteous, friendly and genuinely understand the meaning of 'customer service'.

It has to be said, there are some genuine stand-out staff members who went above and beyond to help and assist us during our filming. Namely, Sarah Lockwood (who was in charge of events there two years ago but has since moved on from this hotel), Danielle Isherwood, who has taken over from Sarah, and Aziz, who is in charge of the restaurant and looked after our cast and crew, making sure we had all we needed. A big shout-out also to young Liam, Mal, and Oliver in the bar area, who were extremely efficient and, again, made sure we were catered for and comfortable.

The last time, I didn’t stay over at the hotel, but this time I decided to, and I must mention the quality of the room. Very comfortable, clean, and a really decent size (some hotel rooms can be quite cramped and claustrophobic).
There is an excellent restaurant, and the quality of the food is seriously good. Enormous praise to the head chef, Sean Noonan, for not only the excellent lunches he provided for my cast and crew on both films, but also the magnificent breakfasts and dinners I experienced there.
Attached to the hotel is a superb Spa, with a fabulous pool – which I definitely took advantage of 😊.

So, seriously, if you are looking for a place to stay or hold an event, look no further than the Mercure Dunkenhalgh Hotel & Spa.
I guarantee you won't regret it!

beautiful building, but does need a bit of tlc in some areas, clean rooms. bed most comfortable.
staff;
breakfast, good food, tables cleaned most efficiently, staff at breakfast good. Aziz you where great, speaking to every one , not just good morning but proper conversations,
evening meal, staff first night good, but second night some serious issues,
very long wait for courses. to the extent that 2 of our table had eaten their main course and having a natter for a while before the main course came for the other two at table, very unacceptable, good job first two didn't wait for others before eating, it would have been cold. noticeable difference in amount of staff on second night. one member of staff very inefficient. stands in a room looks round tables to check all tables had bread rolls, and walks off, completely oblivious to the fact she had not placed rolls on one table, she was also the same when it came to pouring cups of tea, the same table completely missed. after we asked another member for tea she came with enough tea for half a cup. then returned with one luke warm cup and one hot cup!
given that the service was ok on first night you would expect to have the same second night, not the case.
how unusual but lovely that the chief came out first night to check everything had been ok. lovely man, but sorry chief, your waiting staff did you a disservice the second night, some of the food was not served at its best because of the long wait, four soups on one table one only luke warm!
also same situation with reception staff, i spoke on phone to someone with a request, it was not carried out when we got there, same person spoken to before evening meal promised situation would be sorted while we was eating, got back to room and it was not, long walk back to reception spoke to night manager who dealt with request, quickly.

I have stayed at the hotel on a number of occasions and this time standards have declined, the pool was closed for most of the afternoon which left us little time to enjoy the spa before dinner.
On arriving at dinner which I had booked the week before they said there was no booking, the front of house member of staff could have handled the situation better than she did.
The only good thing was seeing Aziz who is such a character and always lovely and kind.
Disappointing visit this time!

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Dunkenhalgh Hotel & Spa for our two year anniversary as we had a Red Letter Days voucher to use in the spa. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here, the staff at the reception were very helpful and easily accommodated us when we wanted to get a spot for dinner that evening. Our room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable. The spa area was very nice and clean, the two ladies (both called Sarah) were friendly and gave us great treatments (which we needed lol) and we would come back to get those again.

The restaurant for dinner was lovely, both the food and service from both Amanda and Courtney was exceptional. Thank you both for making our evening!

We would 100% recommend this hotel and would happily return again in the future. Thank you.

Room was okay, clean and comfortable. Had a great meal in the restaurant. Hotel was very busy. No air con in rooms. Breakfast was good. A good location for a stop over.

Stayed for an overnight spa break. Had a lovely time, room was spacious and clean and Courtney gave us such fantastic service for our evening meal. Only thing that would’ve made it better is that the pool area was untidy. Lots of discarded paper cups. Other than that we had a fab time

Excellent location steeped in history, the newer executive room we stayed at was large and the bed comfortable. The meal and service were excellent the only that let the food down was the creme brulee custard was not set and the way it was handled. We told the waiter politely who passed the comment on to the chef and the waiter returned with the chefs comment 'thats the way its meant to be' we then proceeded to show the waiter the google definition of a creme brulee, which he conveyed to the chef. he then returned and said yes you we were correct and it hadnt set. It did ruin the stay and we concluded that the chef doesn't seem to handle criticism well, it certainly didnt have to involve what it took to get our point across, on this occasion the 'customer was right'.

Good hotel. Friendly staff. Great service from housekeeping. Very comfy bed. Room generally clean. Pool and Spa needs a little tlc pool wall above water level could be cleaner. Didn’t eat on site. Overall enjoyed the stay.
