Have stayed here a few times & most recently in an Executive room.

The staff were very friendly throughout the hotel & Spa. We ate dinner in the bar area & the food was lovely - the service was good too.

The room was very spacious & comfy. There’s no aircon but slept with window open & that was fine.

Only downside was breakfast. Service wasn’t particularly good compared to other elements of hotel. By the time our order of poached eggs arrived (placed on sitting down at table), we had finished breakfast- nearly 30 mins later. ..

I would stay again! Just probably will bring own breakfast.

Nice and clean , comfortable bed. Breakfast best I have ever had and the gentleman in charge at Breakfast is very good at his job , got a large table ready for us and was absolutely brilliant with one of our party with a nut allergy, very different to the lady at our evening meal who was rude beyond belief. There was a mix up in meals and she shouted at us ' stop eating and listen to me' then continued to be very rude. She left our party feeling quite anxious and upset like children at school. She did not return to the room after thankfully.

We stayed on Saturday 5th July as a group of friends and family, we were holding a party locally for my husbands birthday and the hotel could not have been better. All our guests commented on how lovely the hotel was, the rooms were great, the breakfast excellent and the staff were fantastic. The 'Dunk' is very special to us having held our wedding reception there in 1994 and many family gatherings since. Thank you all we had a fabulous stay.

This was booked as part of a gardening club trip. Throughout our 2 night stay the staff were all excellent and could not do enough for us. Some of us had various requests and all were helped. I lost my voice and wanted an early night and they moved me to a quieter room. The maintenance in such an old hotel is a bit quirky and all problems were sorted quickly. To top it all I left an ear-ring in my room and I emailed them on the way home. The cleaners had found it and it was returned to me with a signed letter. The beds were comfortable and the linen was good quality. We had set meals but they were always hot and efficiently served.

Despite looking very grand when you arrive, the interior is VERY tatty. Severe lack of cleaning evident.
We rang ahead to say we wouldn't be arriving until the early hours and we were worried that we'd lose the room. The guy who answered (andrew or adam?) was very reassuring and polite. When we arrived at 2am he welcomed us and even carried two of our bags to the room for us, we had driven for 6 hours so this was a very nice gesture. The room was disappointing, dated, dirty and scruffy but we were grateful just to have a bed. When we went down to breakfast the same guy was on the reception desk and asked how our night had been - we explained our disappointment and he apologised on behalf of the hotel and said he would have been happy to change our room if we had asked. we didn't ask - we very too exhausted.
He changed our breakfast to complimentary ( we didnt ask - he offered this and made this happen for us) and took us to the breakfast area and told the staff there that there was to be no charge for our breakfast.
So, whilst the hotel itself doesn't warrant it's 4 star rating, the reception guy ( cant recall if it was andrew or adam) certainly deserves 5 stars from us.

I attended with a friend for a spa day and it was great from start to finish. The staff in the spa and the hotel restaurant were lovely and attentive. The treatments were amazing, and Sarah was wonderful. She tailored my treatment to my needs, and she has magic hands! Will definitely be returning, and will be requesting Sarah again for future treatments during visits. 10/10 recommend.

Booked via Buyagift, our package included full spa access, thermal suite, treatments, lunch, and gym time. Staff were exceptional — especially Demi, who handled our booking with professionalism and care. My therapist, Sara C., carried out both my facial and massage treatments with warmth and empathy, creating a truly calming atmosphere.

Facilities were clean, spacious, and relaxing — especially the steam room, sauna, pool, and jacuzzi. Though gym access was available (10am–3pm), we chose to fully enjoy the thermal suite instead. Lunch was served promptly with a good selection, though the cheese and pickle sandwich didn’t quite meet the mark.

A thoughtful touch: we were given a family room to change in, and on our way out, a long-haired gentleman kindly checked in on our experience — a lovely gesture that rounded off the day beautifully. Looking forward to visiting again! 💫

Folng on from a review LandsBritupNorth left almost 2 years ago, I can assure prospective guests that nothing has been improved. The hotel is dirty in areas , shabby and in need of renovation. The carpets through stairs and landing are stained. General feeling of grubbiness. The receptionist was slow and incompetent. The queue was getting impatient and eye-rolling to each other. We stayed for our daughter's wedding, which fortunately was NOT held here. The only saving grace was the attentive and friendly staff at breakfast.
