Nice hotel and lovely breakfast. Staff were also nice and grounds are beautiful. Drinks are quite pricey at nearly £10 for a glass of wine. Not sure who thinks a double bed that is two single beds put together is comfortable though! I certainly don’t

I had an accessible room in the older part of the building. It was excellent with everything I needed. The only problem was that I couldn't turn off the bedside lights when I was in bed due to the huge bedhead.
Everything else was fine.
How ever, Nick Parry ,when replying to complaints in reviews, does a lot of apologising but not much action. One lady mentioned the lack of any seating in reception, he said this would be rectified but there is not even a chair in the reception area last weekend.
The staff were excellent.

Myself and my mum have just come home from an amazing weekend here that I booked as her Mother’s Day gift. The hotel is beautiful. Very clean, room was spacious and the amenities were fantastic. The food here was very good. The bar was good and the spa was perfect for the relaxing weekend we was looking for. The staff at the hotel were friendly, helpful and couldn’t do enough for us. Will definitely be looking forward to returning at some point and will recommend to everyone.

Its old fashioned which brings that organic feeling to staying out of town. Being from Birmingham it was a refreshing stay that aired such brilliant hospitality. The few names are Amy Elizabeth at reception who’s warm personality made everything seamless and so easy to feel at home with her incredible reception the 2 lads at the bar jack and sean who were that good i forgot my friends were with me and ended up standing by the bar for 3 hours just chatting with them. Brilliant lads complimented by their brilliant manager Danielle who was there for us no matter what we needed. 10/10 recommend if you’re looking for a vintage experience with a touch of modernity from the best staff you could ask for, also the scenery is beautiful compared to where I’m from which was also refreshing. Honestly a great stay. Thank you to the Mercure team. You guys were great.

This hotel has a truly wonderful set of staff, especially those in the restaurant and bar who are all super friendly and really helpful. Of particular note are Aziz and Sara who work so hard. The hotel's rooms are spacious and well equipped. There is a nice atmosphere all round. A great location to explore from if you are a tourist.

We upgraded to a privilege room, with spa robes, slippers, soft drinks in the fridge etc, the room 210 was spacious and nicely decorated with a comfy bed, unfortunately the door leading into the corridor, where our room was, made a horrendous bang on closing and became quite annoying during the night as people returned to their rooms. Two bottles of water instead of one to share would have been expected, especially when paying for an upgrade.
The food we ate in the bar and restaurant was tasty, service was good, especially from Jack at the bar and Sara in the restaurant, all staff were courteous and friendly, Breakfast was mediocre, more food choices and a breakfast menu on the table would make it a better experiece as I didn't realise porridge was available until I asked and it had to be ordered specifically.
The Spa was adequate and not overcrowded like some, suggested improvements, a seperate hot tub or a higher temperature in the adjoining pool one and a warm or tropical shower, instead of two cold ones in the thermal area.
Overall a nice relaxing weekend and would recommend

We stayed overnight for a wedding at the nearby Sparth house.
Check-in was simple, but a charge of £50 was made on the card registered to your room even though all bills were paid as and when the card was used.
The room was comfortable with a good-sized bed and a great shower, although there was no mirror in order to shave in the bathroom. Also, the top portion of the bathroom window was without privacy film.
The exterior is in need of a lot of repair, mainly window replacement, worn paintwork, and several loose flags that form a trip hazard.
The breakfast was extensive and tasty with a special mention to the lady in charge who was pleasant and went above and beyond to be as helpful as possible. (Name began with an E).
Our evening was spent in the bar area but drinks are pricy. (£50 for 5 persons per round) There is also a limited bar food menu with a nice sized, tasty portion of fish and chips in the offering.
Overall, I would consider the hotel to be average and have stayed in better for the same price point.

Had a lovely, really reasonably priced stay. All the staff at the hotel are really pleasant. The waiting staff at breakfast went out of their way to help, eggs made to order perfect, everything you could want on the buffet, staff happy to get my vegetarian sausages and a glass of ice so my daughter could make an iced latte, couldn't fault their attentiveness, nothing to much trouble.

I have stayed here numerous times over the years and find it convenient and comfortable.
This stay was for 5 nights and I have one small issue and some bigger issues.

The small issue was with the room service where biscuits were replaced only once during the stay. No big deal but at the time annoying.

The bigger issues lie in the fact that you now have to pay £10 to use the spa. Advertising yourself aa a spa hotel and the charging extra to use it seems odd.
I f both my wife and myself had used the spa for the 5 night stay, the additional cost would have been £100. In context this I believe is two months full membership of the spa.

In addition, in the sauna area of the spa, only one of the two showers was working.

In the changing room, three of the six showers were not working resulting in a wait to have a shower. The showers that are working have cubicles in need of repair.

The changing rooms have lockers, many of which do not work. I placed my clothes in one locker to find that it did not work. Fortunately I did not take them out and put in another locker until I was sure that I had found one which worked. This took a further three attempts.

To pay for access is absurd and will possibly cost the hotel in lost revenue over time.
To pay and find facilities of this standard is not acceptable.

I find the location of the hotel and its wonderful setting ideal, but will have to think carefully about my next stay in the area.

Finally, I am a Gold member. If I had booked through Secret escapes and had breakfast each day and used the Spa, it would have been much cheaper.
