I came at the weekend with my mum and our 2 friends for a birthday trip. Our stay on a whole was lovely, a nice bar and lovely food. There was a long wait for drinks in the bar in the afternoon but the barman was on his own doing table service in a rush of a dew guests at once, but still have great service and made us laugh.
The only thing that was a let down was disability accessibility. As it is an old building the flags on the ground was a hazard for using a walking frame, despite this the hotel was brilliant and provided a wheelchair. My friend phoned up and asked for an accessible room and was told was provided, was a let down to find a bath/shower which she struggled to get into due to mobility. Our room was lovely and clean, the only problem was it was extremely warm in the night even without the radiator on.
The spa was clean and very nice, again the only let down was the very steep ‘disabled access slope’ down to the facility. But the treatments were great and staff were very friendly and helpful.
The gym was great and a good range of equipment.
We had a lovely stay and the staff, food and service was great but the only let down was the disabled access.

We enjoyed our overnight stay at this hotel. Stopped here once before and both times found the rooms that we stayed in very spacious and comfortable. The staff seem really friendly and obliging and the food was enjoyable too. The hotel is in nice grounds with good access for visiting local attractions

5/5

My husband and I live in Edinburgh and decided to visit England for a long weekend to celebrate our wedding anniversary and my husband’s birthday. We chose to stay at the Mercure, and we had an amazing experience!

The staff were incredibly friendly and polite, especially Sam at reception and Aziz from the restaurant — both went above and beyond to make our stay special. Our room was beautifully decorated for our anniversary, which was such a lovely surprise.

The hotel itself is stunning, our room was super comfortable, and the food was absolutely delicious. The restaurant’s ambiance was fantastic, and the spa was a wonderfully relaxing experience. I also really enjoyed the gym!

I highly recommend this hotel, especially if you’re celebrating a special occasion — it’s the perfect choice!

Absolutely loved our stay at this beautiful hotel. We stayed in the DeLacy suite and oh wow we were blown away! It was stunning - felt like we lived there it was that big! The bed was so comfy, the couch was perfect. The bathroom was absolutely stunning. The staircase was beautiful. We did not want to leave. The lady who checked us in was so helpful, polite and very professional.

The hotel is located within impressive grounds with a long driveway and plenty of parking. The historic building has an impressive frontage.
As with many hotels in historic buildings, the rooms are a bit variable. It was good to see that there was painting and decorating taking place within the building and it had a feel of being on the up and up. The restaurant and bar area were very good.
We found all the staff to be excellent, so would definitely stay again.

We stayed as a getaway me and hubby for the night and booked through Groupon. We had seen we may have to pay extra £10 to use the pool so phoned ahead and spoke to Samuel who said as a Groupon voucher we didn't have to pay extra, that was good to know! We arrived to a beautiful setting, the grounds, the castle, amazing! it felt very special to be there. We checked in with Samuel and it was lovely to meet him and booked our table for evening meal (part of the deal). He took our cases and led us to our room. He informed us we had slippers, robes and a mini bar all included. The room was huge and spotlessly clean! the bed was definitely Queen Anne size and soft cotton bedding. There was a mini bar, although no alcohol had water and juices, which was a real bonus as we put our milk in the fridge! There were tea and coffee making facilities, a huge television, the whole set of freeview channels and the bathroom was beautiful and clean with lit mirror and walk-in shower. We unpacked and felt very comfortable. We were so relaxed we didn't use the leisure facilities so can't comment on them. Being so relaxed we were running late for dinner so phoned reception and asked if we could put our table back 20 mins which was agreed. We entered the restaurant and on giving name and room number were greeted by the lady with "you're late!", which I explained we had phoned down and changed the time and was told "well it wasn't told to me!" with that the lady then told us our deal had "changed" and instead of the meal being included as we had paid for it, we now were given a voucher for up to £25 per person towards food. I argued this and said we had paid for food in the deal upfront and would be happy to go to the room and provide her with the paperwork but she declined and led us to a table. We asked if we could order drinks and she said she would come back and take our order. We waited 20 mins and then she came with a wine menu but we ordered lager. We then waited a further half an hour and a different young lady came to take our food order. I have to say that even though we had a near hour wait for drinks or food on going into the restaurant the food did not disappoint. It was amazing!! The presentation, the taste and even though a selective menu for Groupon it was gorgeous food!! Sometimes you are made to feel a bit different to the normal menu when not on a Groupon but this was superior food!!! We then decided we would like to take our desserts in a “doggy bag” but because Hubby was having a warm dessert with ice cream the Chef didn’t want it to be all melted and so arranged for the lovely young lady in restaurant to accompany us to our room with our desserts on a tray for us to eat at our leisure in the room! Wow, that was a lovely gesture and was not expected! I didn’t get the name of the lovely girl who served us, but know she is studying her A-levels at present and have to say she was so friendly, pleasant and well mannered. She is an absolute asset to the hotel. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the hotel and would definitely go again, this time having a walk around the grounds and enjoying the night away from all the stress of life! I do think the front of house in the restaurant and the time from sitting to being served food could be a little better but all in all, it hasn’t put us off and we look forward to visiting again!

So I went here for a fitness event the hotel staff were all accommodating, rooms were all clean and as we arrived it looked so glamorous like we were staying in a castle. It felt luxurious and well worth the money can’t wait to book for our next event in October.
On a side Jess was definitely the hostess with the mostess all our requests were accommodated for.

Don’t walk run to book your next stay!!!
