A care home in Edgbaston is inviting the local community to mark 81 years since the end of the second world war in Europe.

On Friday 8th May from 11am-4.30pm, Care UK’s Metchley Manor, on Church Road, is throwing its own 1940s-themed parties to honour the anniversary of VE Day.

VE Day marks the moment Prime Minister Winston Churchill made an announcement on the radio that the war in Europe had come to an end. This news sparked celebrations across the country, with many taking to the streets for spontaneous parties.

During the celebration, residents and guests can enjoy an afternoon of delicious 1940s-themed food, live entertainment and plenty of dancing as they come together to embrace the spirit of the era.

Kim-Marie Newton, Home Manager at Metchley Manor, added: “VE Day holds great significance for so many people, and we’re proud to be marking the 81st anniversary by bringing residents and the local community together.

“Reminiscence activities like these allow residents to reflect on their own experiences, share stories and feel connected to the past. It’s been truly inspiring to hear them talk about their memories in the lead‑up to the event, and now we can’t wait to celebrate together.”

Metchley Manor incorporates plenty of space for hobby and leisure activities, including its own café, hair and beauty salon and tavern. Its expert team provides full-time residential and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care, while the building offers both assisted living and a reminiscence suite to facilitate individual care requirements.
