Care UK’s Mercia Grange, on Lichfield Road in Four Oaks, will open its doors to families and neighbours for a food festival, inviting guests to tuck in and celebrate the nation’s shared love of great cuisine, community and connection.
On Friday 7th August from 3pm-5pm, the team will be serving traditional British food dishes, including fish and chips, allowing visitors to sample cuisine from around the world.
Resident Sylvia Middleton, who formerly owned 13 L & S Middleton shops in Walsall, will be stepping back in time and serving fish and chips to guests.
Sylvia said: “My husband and I started our first shop in 1960. It wasn’t easy, and we worked very long hours, but we kept at it. I think it just goes to show that if you keep going, all that hard work pays off in the end.”
The event is part of the ‘A Taste of Home’ initiative, which will see all Care UK homes host foodie-themed celebrations and showcase what life in a care home is really like.
Each festival will showcase sustainable, community-focused initiatives while celebrating the diversity and creativity within the homes, from residents’ favourite recipes and traditional dishes to seasonal menus featuring locally sourced ingredients.
Michael McNelis, Home Manager at Mercia Grange, said: “Sylvia is super excited to be stepping back in time and reliving treasured memories from her time owning fish and chip shops!
“The day not only promises a lot of laughter, but it is also an excellent way for residents to meet and mingle with lots of new faces – and some familiar ones. We can’t wait to welcome everyone through the doors.”
