“I have always felt drawn to the straight lines and stark geometric shapes of the city’s architecture as I have grown up in this city. The Architecture of Chandigarh is a mixture of modernist and brutalist architecture. Le Corbusier - who designed the city has influenced a generation of architects towards modernism in the 20th century.”
The paintings feature Suminder’s own distinctive technique that emulates the traditional Henna tattooing methods, using fine lines of oil paint to evoke architectural textures and form. Some of the everyday buildings in Chandigarh have also inspired the work, and the exhibition includes her own photos of them.
4th-26th September 2025, Tue-Fri 10.00-15.30 (last admission 15.00)
