Food for thought – Edgbaston care home invites community to learn about eating well with dementia

A care home in Edgbaston is opening its doors to the local community for a fun and informative healthy-eating workshop.

Care UK’s Metchley Manor, on Church Road, will host the event on Wednesday 8th July from 3pm4.30pm, offering practical advice and delicious food to those interested in nutrition for people living with dementia.   

 

Guests will be able to sample healthy twists on classic recipes and chat toMetchley Manor’s Head Chef, Scott Tame. 

 

The team will also share expert tips on nutrition and hydration and introduce the IDDSI framework, which supports safe food textures and drink consistencies for individuals with swallowing difficulties (dysphagia). 

 

Visitors will have the chance to ask questions and connect with others in a relaxed and supportive environment, sharing experiences around dementia-friendly diets.

The event has been designed to get local people talking about how to keep fit and healthy in older age. Care UK has also created an online advice hub, which takes a closer look at how appetites and tastes change with age and features expert advice from nutritionists as well as delicious and quick recipes to try.   

 

Metchley Manor incorporates plenty of space for hobby and leisure activities, including acafé, hair and beauty salon and tavern. Its expert team provides full-time residential and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care, while the building offers both assisted living and a reminiscence suite to facilitate individualrequirements.
