From his early days at Moseley open mics nights 15 years back, Birmingham-born Indie-Folk songwriter Chris Cleverley has risen to national acclaim. Since releasing his critically acclaimed 2022 album ‘Broadcast The Secret Verse’ ("Frighteningly brilliant works" Daily Star), Cleverley has been built a reputation as a cutting-edge songwriter and fingerstyle guitar master, with appearances at top UK acoustic events like Cambridge Folk Festival and the English Folk Expo, twice earning him FATEA Magazine’s ‘Male Artist of the Year’ award.
This December he makes a joyous homecoming stop on his 12 date UK headline tour, sharing his new record ‘Gods Of All Things’; a 5 track Winter E.P, and companion piece to 2024’s critically acclaimed festive outing ‘In the Shadow of John the Divine’. In characteristic style, this vibrant body of work flips the well-explored seasonal genre on its head, offering a fresh, innovative departure from the standard Christmas playlist :
Join Chris for a rare & special Record Launch Party at Kings Heath’s iconic frontrunner for intimate acoustic performance. He will be joined by a full band of renowned guest musicians including BBC Radio 2 Folk Award Winner Sam Kelly, Americana harmony duo Awake Mother and nationally acclaimed West Mids songwriters Dan Whitehouse & Kim Lowings.
A live show that cements his reputation as a true guitar-man. Lighting fast speed & ambient soundscapes invoke fingerstyle legends John Martyn & Bert Jansch, with a visceral lyrics inspired by Lo-fi American Greats, Elliott Smith & Sufjan Stevens.
After his triumphant Sold Out concert in Dec 2024 at the same venue, Cleverley looks forward to reconnecting with the audiences who have stuck by him throughout his decade-long career.
“Hare & Hounds is my No.1 iconic Birmingham venue. From growing up watching regional legends like Steve Gibbons there, to uproarious Moseley Folk Festival after parties, it’s been a staple part of my life. It means the world that I can now bring my own music there to a packed out room of loyal supporters who helped me so much with building what I do over the years.”
With replenishing calm and warm humour, his performances occupy the space between concert and yoga nidra meditation. As revitalising as a warm winter evening spent in front of a blazing stove, Cleverley pledges to leave audiences feeling that little bit more wholesome than when they arrived. This cosy & rare concert promises to be the perfect window for Birmingham’s acoustic music lovers to welcome in the festive season and ignite the holiday spirit.
