Birmingham Symphonic Winds, one of the UK’s leading symphonic wind ensembles, will present Winter Fire, an atmospheric afternoon of music inspired by fire and frost, light and renewal, in Birmingham this December.

The concert takes place on Sunday 6 December 2026 at 3.00pm at the CBSO Centre, Berkley Street, Birmingham, B1 2LF, and will be conducted by Adam Broughton and Tom Griffiths.

The programme ranges from blazing energy and volcanic power to wintry landscapes, light and reflection, and includes:

  • Firebird Suite – Igor Stravinsky, arranged by T. Knox
  • Vesuvius – Frank Ticheli
  • Finlandia – Jean Sibelius
  • East Coast Pictures – Nigel Hess
  • Lux Aurumque – Eric Whitacre
  • O Magnum Mysterium – Morten Lauridsen
  • Fantasia for a King – Paul W. Thurston

At the heart of the programme is Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite, alongside Ticheli’s dramatic Vesuvius and Sibelius’s stirring Finlandia. The concert also features the vivid musical landscapes of East Coast Pictures and the luminous choral-inspired writing of Lux Aurumque and O Magnum Mysterium.

Birmingham Symphonic Winds is an award-winning ensemble recognised as one of the UK’s top symphonic wind ensembles. The orchestra is a winner of Classic FM’s Big Platinum Performance award and a National Concert Band Festival (NCBF) Platinum Award winner.
