Valentines Day in Belfast

Valentine's Day or Saint Valentine's Day is a holiday celebrated on February 14 by many people throughout the world. In the English-speaking countries, it is the traditional day on which lovers express their love for each other by sending Valentine's cards, presenting flowers, or offering confectionery.

The day became associated with romantic love in the circle of Geoffrey Chaucer in the High Middle Ages, when the tradition of courtly love flourished.

You might want to impress your loved one with some of this fancy history on Valentine's Day - but make sure you back it up with a trip to one of Belfast's florists or gift shops!

The sending of Valentines was a fashion in nineteenth-century Great Britain, and, in 1847, Esther Howland developed a successful business in her Worcester, Massachusetts home with hand-made Valentine cards based on British models. Valentine cards are extremely popular in America, where many are now even sent as general greeting cards as well as declarations of love.

Whether you're having a romantic meal in an Italian restaurant or catching  a movie with your parnter the Best of Belfast team wishes everyone a Happy St. Valentine's Day:)
