Walk in the Monks' Footsteps at Warden Abbey Vineyard
  • Warden Abbey Vineyard
    off Bedford Road
    Old Warden
    SG18 9LS
  • Tuesday 12th September 11:00am until 1:00pm
Join this walk and talk around Bedfordshire's historic vineyard and discover Warden Abbey's hidden medieval precinct from a fresh perspective.

The walk will be led by Margaret Roberts who is writing a book on the history of the abbey.  As well as telling the story of the abbey, she'll interpret the landscape features surrounding the vineyard and what they reveal about the life of the abbey's occupants. Warden Abbey Vineyard was originally planted by monks at Warden Abbey and is now run by Bedfordshire Rural Communities Charity as an exciting community project cared for all year round by volunteers.  Please note there is no access to the Warden Abbey building or its immediate environs, run by the Landmark Trust.

The tour starts at 11 am and lasts 1.5 to 2 hours. The vineyard is on a gentle slope and ground is uneven. The walk may not be suitable for people with limited mobility. Please bring suitable footwear/outdoor clothing for the weather.

Limited space so advance bookings only please.
