The Council is holding an exhibition to stimulate ideas and involvement in the development of Bath from 20th January to the 22nd January at The Octogan, Milsom Place Bath.
Jonathan O’Shea, Chairman of the Initiative for Bath & North East Somerset, said, “Bath is evolving as a city with local business and the Council both moving ahead together to confront local challenges, such as the need to tackle a relatively low wage economy overly dependent on retail, tourism, and a declining public sector. However, if businesses are to expand and private investors are to make long-term decisions to come here then we all need to promote the area as a great location for a wide range of knowledge based businesses, the creative sector, environmental technologies, and modern manufacturing.
“This aspiration must be underpinned by delivery of modern, flexible creative space, higher broadband capacity, new homes for those who wish to live and work here is a must, as is improved transport infrastructure so that employees and clients can travel to the new office space. Without the plans for these in place, the economic prosperity for the city is less certain and the Council will find it extremely difficult to support the creation of an extra 8,700 jobs district wide by 2026.
“The exhibition will improve public awareness and understanding about how important it is to resolve these issues to ensure the plans that the public and private sector have developed for a route to prosperity are successful.”
