FREE summer fun in Bath

The holidays are upon us and the weather is being more than hot enough for most of us. School is out and a couple of weeks of well deserved holiday is around the corner for most adults. So here is the big question – How to keep the family entertained?

One of Bath’s best summer fun secrets is Warleigh Weir. Well known to most of you or if you haven’t been yet it’s well worth a visit.

We visited Warleigh Weir for the first time last Saturday (oh yes, lots of sun, sunhats, suncream theworks!) and it truly was a great day out for all the family. We biked along the canal path towards Bathampton and carried on for another 20 minutes or so (some slow bikers amongst us!) until we hit the Claverton Pumping Station. We all slipped our bikes through the little gap in the low stone wall and simply followed the other ‘swimmers’ (Ferry Lane)! And then we had our picnic in the cow field overlooking the Weir! There is just so much fun to be had for young and old (we tried to catch some fished, walked across the weir, and had a fantastic swim in a shallow bit of water which really was ideal for children. But this place is also great for the more experienced swimmers amongst us.

Will we go again? It’s most definitely high up on our ‘days out’ list and with the holidays only just starting we’ll visit Bath’s hidden natural outside swimming pool again for sure. (and very likely several times!). Bring on summer.
