Scratchbuilt Productions brings you a truly interactive show this October Half-term that blends physical theatre, comedy and puppetry with fully immersive medical role-play and an interactive personalised experience for every child.

Inspired by the nostalgic Saturday-night television of Casualty and 24 Hours in A&E, the show blends physical theatre and puppetry to balance both comedy and tenderness.

Along the way we meet a lost dolly, a teddy with a detached limb and a vintage clock who might have to “move onto another place”. Age-appropriate and created with great care, the show touches on empathy, loss, and what it means to get back something you love.

The Experience

The Magical Toy Hospital is an experience of two halves, following the 25 minute show,  the set of the Toy Hospital is then transformed into an interactive waiting room, with a stay and play role play area where children can use their imagination and lots of fun medical props to play to practice looking after their ‘patient’, while waiting for their own toy’s bespoke appointment!

 At the heart of the Magical Toy Hospital is the patient journey that runs after the first part of the  show. Children bring a toy from home or choose one from the adoption shelf on arrival. The toy is the patient the child is their concerned care giver and from the moment they enter, the immersive experience begins.

From Admission, where every patient is checked in by a receptionist, before having a thorough examination with stethoscopes and temperature gauges in the Triage. They are then taken for an X-ray and CT scan before being given a diagnosis and directed to the The Pharmacy for medical treatment such as ‘extra cuddles’ or a ‘bit of new stuffing’, before being Discharged, where every child leaves with their toy’s medical records, a prescription, and their toy fitted with a wristband bearing its details.

The Magical Toy Hospital inclusive for all ages, from young ones bringing their most treasured toy through to grown-ups who grew up watching Casualty and find themselves unexpectedly moved!

 Fantastic for Families: The building is accessible for buggies and we will provide an area for you to leave them whilst you enjoy the show with your little ones. The venue has baby change facilities and also has a small on site cafe serving drinks and sweet treats. Please feel free to feed your baby/ child in the cafe while you are visiting or during the show.

Accessibility:  The venue is all based on the ground floor and so accessible for most wheelchairs & buggies. We have some limited disabled parking and an accessible toilet.
